My reflection bog this week is to reflect on the Ted Talk video “The Tribes we lead” by Seth Godin and the presentation “ 50 reasons not to change ” by Dr. Daryl Watkins. This blog will cover the idea of change and its’ excuses. I will complete the blog by identifying if I utilize any of the 50 types of excuses when implementing change and are there any quick wins I can take back to my career today. Godin talked about how tribes of people or connect together because they have something in common. Thinking in my own life and the tribes I belong to, I find it comical because my tribes have changed over the years. My reflection blog this week is to reflect on the interview with Marcia Blenko about effective decision making in an organization. In Blenko’s interview, she talks about how her company has conducted a large amount of research and there is some positive correlation between the companies’ effectiveness on making decisions and employee engagement. Blenko discussed that there are four elements of good decision making and leader skills and behaviors could impact decision-making. This blog will talk about employee engagement impacts effective decision making, issues with making decisions and determine if there are elements missing from Blenko’s decision making concept. My blog will address this information from a standpoint of being a new leader within an organization that has endured a new organizational structure over the past year and decision-making is challenged by change. My reflection blog this week will reflect on the video “ 21st Century Enlightenment ” by Matthew Taylor. Before I reflect on the video, itself, I found myself thinking about our current culture and behaviors within our country, where various interests’ groups feel the need to be right or be offended. Taylor discusses how the Enlightenment Age is the Age of reason. My perception of why he called the video the “21 st Century Enlightenment” is because our culture is continuously changing and although we are more modernized we can still continue or should consider thinking differently in order to be better prepared in the future or obtain a different result. (Taylor, 2010) Think Differently Taylor (2010) stated that “to live differently, you have to think differently.” I felt his statement is very powerful in comparing it to the rhetoric centered on the political division in our country where actions are driven by individual thoughts or interpretation of thoughts.   Today’s rhe...
